is no longer active
The board of the Roman Road Community Land Trust has recently taken the difficult decision to close the CLT as we were no longer able to continue to provide sufficient resources and time to pursue projects to address the unmet housing need in Bow.
Our experience showed how challenging it is for a small community-led housing group to secure a site for genuinely affordable housing in East London. Despite our best efforts we were not successful in securing either of the sites that we identified as having good potential for the provision of affordable housing in the area. We do however take credit for having commissioned a Housing Needs Assessment for Bow East and Bow West wards, the results of which were included in the draft neighbourhood plan for Bow.
The two sites that were the target of the CLT’s efforts were firstly the Clarion owned site at 81-147 Candy St. E3 2LH, which is now going to be developed (planning application PA/21/01162), by Place Ltd in close cooperation with Tower Hamlets Council to accommodate 16 pre-constructed modular apartments to be used as temporary accommodation for a period of 10 years. The second site in Lark Row E2 was made available through the Mayor of London's small sites programme.
The Board would like to thank everyone who helped and supported us in our efforts to provide affordable housing in the area. If you wish to continue supporting action on housing you can consider engaging with London Community Land Trust or https://www.squeezed.london/
